"Discovering flaws in your paper after applying the washes." |
|
|
OOPS! While I was putting down the first abstract washes I noticed three lines going from the upper right corner down to the left near the top 1/3 of the paper. I wanted to keep some light areas in the background for depth but no matter how dark I applied the colors the lines still showed through. |
My composition format was going to be a horizontal with the finished
frame around 22" w x 16" h. Now with the mars causing dark
lines, I had to rethink the overall size. The easiest solution was "creative matting". I double checked all of the dimensions and figured that I could save the piece. |

THE SOLUTION! I took a couple of mat corners and estimated where I would have to position the mat to hide the flaws. Then I cut a double mat that would frame out to 20" w x 10" h. I held the image opening of 15-1/2 w" x 7-1/2" h, which still gave me a nice format. |
Sometimes
things happen that make us rethink where we need to go.
Creative matting is only one solution to fixing a problem. Here's a quick photo of the image where it stands right now. The darks on the original are darker than shown here. I'm satisfied with the outcome, so I think I'll mat it and call it finished. V |
